Cleaning Bucket Weekend
Help us to fill a truck with items for UMCOR cleaning buckets March 17th and 18th! Disaster relief is needed for Hurricane survivors, especially Puerto Rico. Let’s weigh down the truck! We can do it together! See the March Circuit Rider for a list of items to be donated.

High School Seniors of 2018
Please turn in your information sheets to Sarah Borgman as soon as possible. If you lost yours please stop in the office to pick up a new one. Scholarship packets can be picked up at this time and are due back to the office by March 28th. Scholarships are available to all seniors who are members of the church.


WANTED:  Chancel Choir Accompanist
The Chancel Choir of the Church is looking for an accompanist to rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and to play for choir presentations on the first & third Sundays of the month. The Care Team is looking for a few folks to assist in providing transportation for our church family members to get to: 1) worship services; 2) medical appointments; and/or 3) grocery store. First United Methodist Church’s Piece by Piece Campaign is     boldly seeking to renovate our beautiful stained glass windows; retire debt on our Outreach Center; and establish endowments that will address continued building maintenance needs and further missional giving. Prayerfully consider the ways that we will boldly live into our mission & vision through the Piece by Piece Capital  Campaign.

In March we will focus on those attributes of Jesus that we celebrate about the Son of God and the Son of Man. So what does Jesus claim about himself? In the Gospel of John, there are seven “I AM” Sayings. During the Lenten season, we will reflect on these statements through Jesus Says I AM. Join us Saturday night at 6:00 or Sunday morning at 8:00 & 10:30.

Columbus Community Hospital are offering cooking classes. The dates of the classes are:  March 20th (Beneficial Herbs and Spices), April 17th (In A Pinch- Homemade Mixes and Substitutions), May 15th (South American Flair), June 19th (Cooking with Beans), July 17th (Healthy Carb Cooking), August 21st (Garden Fresh Delights), September 18th (FODMAP Cooking), October 16th (Cooking for a Healthy Heart), November 20th (Holiday Spectacular), December 18th (Cooking with Whole Grains). Class time will be 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at Columbus Wellness Center. Cost is $15.00 per person. Register today by calling 402-562-4462.
Prairie Rivers District Advanced Lay Servant Training – This class redefines the word “stewardship” to mean more than meeting the annual budget. Afire With God urges ministers and congregations to become stewards-in-action of all that God has entrusted to us. This text examines how being a good steward goes beyond one’s financial commitment and becomes the way we live out the gospel. Order your books through or You must have your books in order to attend the class. The class will be held at Stromsburg United Methodist Church  (401 E 5th Street, Stromsburg, Nebraska) on March 23rd and 24th. Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost is $10 payable upon arrival to Stromsburg UMC. Includes snacks and Saturday Lunch.  Another $10 payable to Great Plains UMC – Prairie Rivers District (mail in your registration). Register by March 9th. Women’s Retreat – On Saturday, March 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Women of all ages are invited to come to spring cleaning your spiritual bloomers women’s retreat at First Faith United Methodist Church (4190 W Capital Ave Grand Island). The cost is $25, which includes lunch, and some take away items. Please call the office to register at 308-384-5620.
Easter Family Fun Day at Camp Fontanelle – On Palm Sunday March 25th from 2 to 5 PM take some time out to dye your Easter eggs at Camp Fontanelle (bring your own boiled eggs). Other activities including hiking and games on the campgrounds, Easter egg hunts by age group, and Easter egg climbing. That’s right, you’ve got to climb the tree to get these eggs in your basket. The Zipline Egg Drop will zip you down and back across 700’ of total cable. The challenge will be to drop an egg in a certain area and win a prize.
Eggsperience – Columbus Community Hospital will hold their 7th Annual Easter egg hunt on Tuesday, March 27th at 6:00 p.m. on the hospital’s front lawn. This event is for children ages 2 to 7. Destination Imagination – The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in science, technology, engineering, fine arts, and mathematics. For the first time ever, Destination Imagination teams will showcase their challenge solutions for the public! Come enjoy some dinner and entertainment! Destination Imagination is having a soup supper fundraiser on April 5, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the 1C Sanctuary and the Broken Mug.  Help our Destination imagination program thrive and continue to grow! In order to finance trips to Globals, as well as a provide funding for future growth, we are asking for donations to help meet our final goal of $15,000.
Worship Together – on Saturday, April 7th from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., The Sanctuary women of all faith will gather together to unite, uplift and connect through the power of prayer and worship. Healthy Lifestyle Class – Sessions are April 24th, July 24th and October 23rd from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. These sessions are free to the public. Make the Difference – A Wichita Christian Men’s Gathering on Saturday, April 28th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  at Calvary United Methodist Church (2525 N. Rock Rd. Wichita Kansas). You are invited to hear Rev. Dotson, Coach Hogan speak. Along with some personal testimonies of how the positive affirmation of men has impacted lives.  Also you will be able to explore questions in your small group and will be challenged to go back into the world and reproduce your experiences. Sammy’s Superheros Foundation – On May 10th there will be a community-wide day of giving people in the Columbus area will have the chance to contribute to the community’s goal of raising around $100,000 in a single day by contributing to the 36 nonprofit(s) of their choice.
Homes Wanted & Needed – Great foster parents are willing to work in partnership, are committed to provided care and support, are willing to complete training and ongoing education, are willing to open their hearts and homes. If you have ever thought about foster care, wanted to know more about it, or just did not know where to start, let us take some time to share about this rewarding and needed service. Call and speak to a foster parent, recruiter, and trainer to find out about the role YOU can play and the difference YOU can make one child at a time. Center For Survivors - The center is now in its 27 year of serving our families and individuals in six counties. We have served over 1,000 individuals in 2016. One in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, and one in seven men will experience severe physical violence by their partner. Churches have been vital in providing our center resources for families and individuals impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.  We have many families and individuals on our Christmas wish lists that are in need of new winter clothing. If you would like to adopt a family, for our Christmas wish list program, please call 402-564-2155 or email Our need list is in the office at First United Methodist Church. Some of the items include garbage bags, laundry detergent, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, cereal, soups, diapers, Ziploc bags, and gift cards.
