Building/Move Updates

Detailed here are the basic plans for the Education Wing remodeling project unanimously approved at the church conference held June 19, 2011. This remodeling is the next phase of our Master Building Plan. (Please click here for a summary of our Master Building Plan.)

Remodeling highlights:
  • updating and replacement of the heating and electrical systems, including the addition of air conditioning to the entire Educational Wing.
  • energy efficient replacement windows
  • new pitched roof with space to house heating and air conditioning equipment
  • bring the structure up to current building and fire code
  • creation of a new large gathering space outside the Sanctuary
  • expansion of restroom facilities
  • relocation of current office suite
  • asbestos replacement
The estimated cost for this remodeling is approximately $1.9 million.  We currently have about $1.7 million on hand or in pledges from our past financial campaigns.  The Building Committee was authorized by the church conference to borrow an amount not to exceed $250,000, if needed, to complete the remodeling.
 
Between now and the time of our construction start, some of the future activities by the Building Committee include:
  • Development of construction documents and a detailed project construction schedule
  • Seeking approval for the project from the District Committee on Building and Location
  • Identification of temporary relocation options for the remodeling and associated lease costs

 Building Committee Update  (an excerpt from the October 2011 Circuit Rider Newsletter)
 

Our architects from BVH have been busy working to complete the construction documents for the remodeling of the Educational Wing. We expect those finalized documents, along with the detailed schematic plans, by the end of September. With these documents, we should be in a position to seek competitive bids for the remodeling work during the month of October, working with our construction manager Darrell Burrows. Once contracts have been awarded, Darrell will meet with the major contractors to start development of a project schedule. We expect that we could be ready to begin the remodeling in December. However, because of the many activities happening in the Church during the holiday season, we will likely wait to start until after the first of the year. This schedule remains somewhat fluid, so be sure to check out future editions of the Circuit Rider for the latest updates on our building program.
