Ministries

This web section is intended to help you "plug in" to receive or provide ministry. In many ways, plugging in is how God works most actively in our lives.  Ministry is for men and women, young and "not so young".  Ministry also covers the range from caring to social, from education to service and music, and includes opportunities for Hispanic and Latino involvement.

At  FUMC we use a couple ways to "examine" our ministry progress, personally and churchwide:
(1) the Six Marks of Discipleship and
(2) the "baseball diamond" of our spiritual journey.

Below are depictions of both. Take your pick or consider them both. But be sure to check out the links to the gifts survey and the MyNextStep opporutnities at the bottom of this page.

"BASEBALL DIAMOND" of our SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

Or it might be helpful for you to evaluate your situation in light of the baseball diamond representation of the spiritual journey. For example, which base are you on and where do you want to be?

A WAY TO THINK ABOUT YOUR SPIRITUAL JOURNEY - Your Invitation to Grow 2011

With all that’s in the works, 2011 looks to be a big step toward our vision of growth in ministry at Columbus FUMC. We strive for growth both outwardly and personally. The Ministry Development Team encourages the personal growth part of our church’s vision through the My Next Step: Connect and Serve program for all people.

Any time is a good time to take a personal growth step. Please look through this ministries section and pray about what God intends for you. Spend some meditation time with the “Grow 2011” baseball diamond picture above. Consider the personal growth questions there and pray for God’s leading in your life journey with Jesus Christ. For example, do you want to know more about your spiritual gifts? A 60-question on-line survey is available at
for you to “inventory” yourself, or better yet join the My Next Step: Connect and Serve class on certain Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. for a more complete experience. Click on the following link for more information about My Next Step: Connect and Serve:

Briefly, the baseball diamond shows that our spiritual life journey often progresses from an attachment phase to a general knowledge and love phase, to an understanding of personal ministry possibilities, to a dedicated service to God phase. One way then to think about this is each phase being a base around the baseball diamond on our way “home”.

Of course the journey is not really that simple as we also find ourselves going from base to base in somewhat random order and are sometimes on multiple bases at the same time. But God will still make use of our journey as long as we are participating on the Christian team.

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
