Worship is a celebration of God’s love and action in our lives. God is active whether we notice or not. It is good to come together as God’s people to learn from each other and to let God soak into our lives. Worship is not that easy to describe, but it’s like a family reunion centered on Jesus Christ. In this web section you’ll learn about worship opportunities, including through prayer. We also offer Communion open to all on the weekend having the first Sunday of each month. You do not have to be a member of this church or any church to be invited to the Lord's Table at Columbus' First United Methodist Church.

SEASONAL WORSHIP

CHRISTMAS

Typically we have three Christmas Eve Services. We hope you will find a service, or two, that meets the spiritual needs of everyone in your family.
  • 5 pm - The children's service is directed at the needs of children. It features a sermon just for the little ones and is conducted without candles.
  • 7 pm - The service features scriptures, carols and candlelight. This is a great service to invite your friends and neighbors to attend.
  • 11 pm - The worship will include scriptures, carols, preaching, communion and candlelight.
NOTE: Because Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday in 2017, the schedule for the weekend of  December 23rd and 24th services are as follows:

EASTER

Easter is the highest "holiday" of the church year, celebrating Christ's victorious resurrection from the dead proving his sacrificial love and eternal power for us. Leading up to Easter we have the 40-day Lenten period that starts with an ecumenical (multi-denominational) Ash Wednesday service and ecumenical weekly noon services and lunch. During Holy week, we have a Maundy Thursday service with         communion. There is a 36-hour prayer vigil leading up to the Easter sunrise service. Next, the United Methodist Men serve a sunrise breakfast and the Easter celebrations continue throughout the Sunday School and other worship services.

SPECIAL SERVICES

BAPTISMS

United Methodist baptism can be done by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion and can be for infants to adults. In infant baptism, the parents, sponsors and congregation commit to Christ the raising of the child according to God's way. The child's personal acceptance of Christ then comes later, whenever ready, commonly at confirmation. Baptisms are normally done during a worship service to provide public witness and to involve the congregation in the support of the baptised person and their family.

If you would like to be baptized, or have your child baptized, please contact Rev Cindi at 402-564-8463, or by clicking on the following email address for her, and sending her your specific baptism inquiry --

CONFIRMATION

Rev Cindi Stewart, Rev Seong Lee, and Education Coordinator Sarah Borgman provide a nine-month confirmation class for eighth graders. The class consists of camp experiences in July between seventh grade and eighth grade and educational classes. Each student is given the opportunity to confirm their faith, trust and dedication to Christ and to the church. This then constitutes full membership in the church for the confirmand. Contact Rev Cindi for more information.

WEDDINGS

The church welcomes couples seeking holy matrimony. A wedding coordinator helps organize and conduct the preparations, rehearsal, and wedding ceremony. Reverends Cindi or Seong provide counseling sessions for the couple leading up to the marriage. Contact Rev Cindi or Rev Seong  at 402-564-8463 or send them an email with your inquiry.

FUNERALS

The church consoles the family and provides funeral or memorial services for their loved ones. A funeral committee provides lunch service. Funeral homes usually provide much of the detailed coordination. Contact Reverend Cindi at 402-564-8463 or send her an email at the following address for specific information:

But really we have the opportunity to worship our God by the way we approach life and in everything we do.  (interpretation of Paul in Romans 12:1).
